Tactility

This body of work explores the potentials of sensory experience in ceramics. It looks at touch and it's values in creating direct connections between people and the world around them. The work centers on the tactile qualities of objects which enhance the senses rather than focusing solely on visual perception . It considers how perceiving an object through touch provides a more detailed and durable memory of the object. Thus, you are encouraged to hold the art, in exploration of the haptic sense.

The objects embody design principles that create a naturally comfortable form that can be held in the hands. Tactile awareness lies in the manipulation of shape and form that each object embodies. Each form is different, derived from the clay’s response to the artist's touch and experienced differently; when the object is held by someone else.

Audience awareness of the relationship between the ceramic objects and the hand is important, as the audience may experience the pieces directly through tactile perception . As each object is hand-built, the aim is to convey the importance of touch in understanding the world around us, how we perceive things and evolving a sense of connection.
